Biography

Sid Scruggs, of Vass, North Carolina, USA, was elected to serve as International President of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the Association's 93rd International Convention, held at Sydney, Australia, in July, 2010.

Past President Scruggs is a retired commercial airline pilot.

A member of the Vass Lions Club, he has held many offices within the association, including club president, multiple district extension chairperson and district governor. In addition Past President Scruggs has served on the board of directors of the North Carolina Lions Foundation and as the multiple district White Cane chairperson. He has been a presenter at the USA/Canada and Europa Leadership forums and international conventions and an instructor for the Lions Clubs International Leadership Institute, the Southeastern Leadership School and the District Governor-elect School. He is actively involved with dog guides for the blind and received the Canine Companion for Independence Abdul Leadership Award.

In recognition of his service to the association, Past President Scruggs has received four Lion of the Year awards, the 100% Club President Award, eight New Club Extension Awards, the Guiding Lion Award, the Governor of Excellence Award, the Key of Nations Award, four International President's Certificates of Appreciation, an International President's Leadership Award, eight International President's Awards and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor the association gives to its members. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.

In addition to his Lions activities, Past President Scruggs is chairperson of the board of directors of the Governor Morehead School, a member of the board of directors of the Raleigh Lions Clinic For the Blind, Inc., and a life member of the North Carolina Lions Foundation, the American Airlines Grey Eagles Association and of the Naval Academy Alumni Association. He was presented with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest award given by the State of North Carolina. He has also received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from World University.

Past President Scruggs and his wife, Judy, also a Lion and a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, have four children and 16 grandchildren.

Biography

Wayne Madden, of Auburn, Indiana, USA, was elected to serve as 1st International Vice President of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 94th International Convention held at Seattle, USA in July 2011.

Vice President Madden is an insurance agency owner and insurance agent.

A member of the Auburn Lions Club since 1984, Vice President Madden has held many offices within the association, including club president, zone chairperson, region chairperson, state council chairperson and district governor. In addition, he is a trustee and past president of the Indiana Lions Foundation. He served as a District Governor-elect faculty member three times and is currently serving as Campaign SightFirst II sector coordinator for Multiple District 25.

In recognition of his service to the association, Vice President Madden has received many awards, including the 100% Club President Award, Life Membership in the Association, the Senior Master Key Award, four Extension Awards, one International President’s Leadership Medal, four International President’s Medals and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor the association bestows upon its members. He is a Charter W.P. Woods Fellow, a Kentucky Colonel, a Helen Keller Fellow and a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.

In addition to his Lion activities, Vice President Madden is active in numerous professional and community organizations. He is a certified insurance counselor.

Vice President Madden and his wife, Linda, also a Lion and Melvin Jones Fellow, have two daughters and four grandchildren.

Biography

Barry Palmer, from Sydney, Australia was elected to serve as the 2nd international Vice President of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the Association’s 94th International Convention held at Seattle, USA in July 2011.

Barry Palmer is a self-employed local businessman currently running a large local Real Estate Company. He has been an active member of the local community as well as in Lions for the last 34 years serving on the boards of many community groups including the Bendigo Community Bank in Berowra, his home town. He has been the Chairman of that Bank for the last three years.

He served two years 2000/2002 on the Lions Clubs International Board as our International Director. He was the motivator and instiginator behind the successful project “The Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation” better known as the Hart Walker program. He also started the Lions Cord Blood and Childhood Cancer research Project in conjunction with the Children’s Cancers Institute, Australia.

In more recent times he started a project in Indonesia with the assistance of PID Durban called “Education Builds Bridges” This project now finances 120 children to go to school and is supported by Lions and members of the public in Australia, New Zealand and the USA as well as Indonesia.

Barry and Anne also support an Orphanage in Bangalore India with the help of his club.

In 2003 he was appointed by the International Board to assist the growth of Lions in Indonesia. The second year of the two year appointment saw the largest percentage increase of any Multiple District in the world.

In 2005 he was appointed by to the International Committee of Campaign Sight First II.For the last three years he has served on the International Advisory Committee for LCIF.

He was Chairman of the 2010 Host Committee for the International Convention held in Sydney.

On 26th January 2005 Barry was awarded the Australian Medal (AM) by the Australian Government for his service to Lions and in particular to disadvantaged children locally and internationally.
